Library and Information Services for Blind and Visually Impaired Users
Since 2000, two adaptive workstations have been operating in the Library for blind and visually impaired users as a result of the participation of the library in the ACCELERATE project in the frame of the Leonardo Da Vinci European programme. The workstations are equipped with the appropriate software and devices, permitting the use of the digital library without the intervention of sighted persons. Blind users are able to read and send e-mails, surf the Internet, search the Librarys OPAC, renew borrowed books, search the databases, read journal articles and study electronic books. Reading is achieved with the aid of the refreshable Braille display, the special magnification software and/or the transformation of the screen texts into acoustic format through the speech synthesizer. The Library creates the digital material of the courses needed for blind students studies, in collaboration with the faculty.

Library collaboration with the locals blind associations.

We are in collaboration with the School of the Blind and the Pan Cyprian Organization of Blind People in Cyprus. Recently we have completed the task of cataloguing all of the collections (books, journals, e.t.c) of the Pan Cyprian Organization for the Blind and now this Catalogue is available online on our library website where anybody can find a book in this collection via internet.
